What the top-20 list is for

The top-20 is a pre-season ranking of the 20 highest-expected-fantasy-point players across all 10 franchises. The list updates weekly during the season based on form, injuries, and team composition changes. The list is for captain-pick and differential-pick reference, not for betting lines.

How we rank

Five inputs: (1) expected fantasy points per match (median of last 8 matches played in IPL), (2) role confirmation (top-order, finisher, all-rounder, frontline bowler), (3) ceiling (90th-percentile fantasy points), (4) floor (10th-percentile fantasy points), (5) credit cost (high-credit picks get a slight haircut on the ranking). Equal weights.

Tier 1 (top 5)

Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians) — elite all-rounder, 80-100 fantasy points expected. Andre Russell (Kolkata Knight Riders) — power-overs finisher, 70-90 fantasy expected with 130+ ceiling. Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings) — top-order anchor, 70-85 expected. Heinrich Klaasen (Sunrisers Hyderabad) — finisher, 70-90 expected. Jasprit Bumrah (Mumbai Indians) — frontline pacer, 60-80 expected with high-floor consistency.

Tier 2 (6-10)

Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants) — wicket-keeper batsman, 65-85 expected. Pat Cummins (Sunrisers Hyderabad) — frontline pacer, 55-75 expected. Yashasvi Jaiswal (Rajasthan Royals) — opener, 60-80 expected. Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans) — opener, 55-75 expected. KL Rahul (Delhi Capitals) — wicket-keeper, 60-80 expected.

Tier 3 (11-15)

How to use the top-20 for captain picks

Step 1: filter the top-20 by role (pick the role you want for captain). Step 2: check ownership data for the contest. Step 3: identify differentials (sub-12% ownership in the top-20). Step 4: cap the differential if the matchup is favourable. The top-20 + ownership filter is the standard mega contest captain pick method.

How to use the top-20 for non-captain XI slots

For non-captain XI slots: fill 3-4 slots with top-20 mid-tier (Tier 3-4) players — moderate ownership, moderate ceiling. The remaining slots are mid-tier (not in top-20) and differential candidates. The 4-3-4 split carries the framework.

Mid-season updates

The top-20 updates weekly during the IPL season. We update on Mondays with the previous week's form reading. Tier movements (Tier 1 → Tier 2, Tier 4 → Tier 3) reflect form changes. Captain picks should align with the latest version of the top-20.

For new players: learn the top-20 names and use them as captain candidates for the first 30 contests. For experienced players: filter by ownership and dive into Tier 3-4 for differential play. For all players: check the weekly update before every captain pick decision.
