What we are going deeper on

This page takes the points table and walks through each threshold: when the strike-rate bonus kicks in, when the economy penalty applies, how the captain multiplier changes the optimal team shape. If you already know the basic points table, this page gives you the second layer of reasoning.

Deep Points Breakdown

Strike-rate inflection points

The strike-rate bonus table has four thresholds: 70 (penalty), 90 (penalty), 130 (no adjustment), 150 (bonus), 170 (bonus). Two inflection points matter. The 90-strike-rate line: below 90, the batter scores -2 fantasy points on strike rate. The 150-strike-rate line: above 150 with sub-50 runs, the batter scores +4. The gap between 90 and 150 is the "neutral zone" where strike rate does not change the fantasy total.

Economy rate graphs

Economy bonus calculation methodology

What 130 strike rate really means

A 130-strike-rate innings of 50 runs scores 50 + 1×4 (boundary bonus for at least one four) + 2 (half-century bonus) = 53. A 150-strike-rate innings of 50 scores 50 + 4 (boundary) + 4 (SR bonus 150-170) + 2 (half-century) = 60. The 7-point gap is small. The captain multiplier makes it 14, which is rank-relevant but not decisive.

What 170 strike rate really means

A 170-strike-rate innings of 40 scores 40 + 6 (boundary) + 6 (SR bonus 170+) = 52. A 130-strike-rate innings of 40 scores 40 + 4 (boundary) = 44. The 8-point gap is decisive when the captain multiplier applies — 16 fantasy points lead to a 5,000-10,000 rank jump at the top of the leaderboard.

Strike rate charts

Strike rate ceiling explained

The 200-strike-rate cliff

Strike rate above 200 scores the same bonus as 170-200 (+6 in sub-50 runs). The bonus cap is at 200. So a 230-strike-rate innings of 38 scores the same as a 200-strike-rate innings of 38. That is intentional: beyond 200, the bonus no longer rewards reckless hitting. The captain pick at 200+ ceiling is rare and capped.

Economy breakpoints

Economy bonus table has four bands: above 12 (penalty), 11-12 (penalty), 9-11 (no adjustment), 7-9 (no adjustment), 5-7 (small bonus), below 5 (large bonus). The 7-RPO line is the inflection: below 7 RPO, the bowler earns +2 to +6 economy points. The 12-RPO cliff is rare; death-overs bowlers in a 200-run match occasionally cross 12 in one over but average below 11 across the full spell.

How economy bonus stacks with wicket bonus

A bowler takes 3 wickets for 28 runs in 4 overs. Wickets 75. Bowling SR: 3 in 24 balls = SR 8, +8. Economy 7 RPO: +4. Total 75 + 8 + 4 = 87 bowling points. Add 12 runs from batting: +12. Total 99. Capped: 198. That is the standard frontline pace bowler match on a slightly bowling-friendly track.

The captain multiplier's effect on XI shape

The captain 2× and vice-captain 1.5× multipliers compress the importance of every non-multiplied XI player. A 60-point player in slot 7 contributes 60; a 60-point vice-captain contributes 90; a 60-point captain contributes 120. The captain picks are the levers; the rest of the XI is diversification.

Salary-cap × captain-math

Salary-cap fantasy platforms force trade-offs. If the most expensive player is your captain (mandatory on some platforms), the leaderboard caps at rank 200-500 in the typical match. To break into top 100 you need the captain score to be 130+ AND the rest of the XI to average 50+. That is the league ceiling on forced-captain formats.

Ownership math applied to score

If 30% of the field caps Player X at 130 points, the average contribution per team from Player X is 39 (130 × 0.30). Your edge over the median if you also pick Player X but as captain is the captain differential: 130 (captain) - 39 (median) = 91 fantasy points. That is your leaderboard gap from a strong-ownership high-captain pick. If ownership is 8% and the score is 130, your edge over the median is much larger.

The inverse math for differential captains

A 8%-owned captain who scores 110 contributes 110 to your team and 110×0.08 = 8.8 to the field median. Your edge over the median is 101.2. That is a 5,000-10,000 rank jump in a 50,000-team contest. The math holds for a 12%-owned differential captain who scores 100: contribution 100, field median 12, edge 88 — a 2,000-4,000 rank jump.

The defensive math for high-ownership captains

A 40%-owned captain who scores 80 contributes 80 to your team and 80×0.40 = 32 to the field median. Edge over median: 48. That is a marginal 500-1,000 rank advantage — useful in head-to-head but not in mega contests. Use high-ownership anchors as a defensive pick only.

Final scoring model

Optimal scoring model: pick the captain with the highest expected (ceiling × ownership-decay) value. Differential captains win mega contests; high-ownership anchors win head-to-heads. Build the ladder accordingly. The next page in this series covers the operator comparison that anchors it all.

When does the strike-rate bonus stop stacking?

Above 200 strike rate, the bonus is capped at +6 points. The marginal value of 230 SR over 200 SR is zero for fantasy purposes.

Does economy bonus apply to part-time bowlers?

Yes if they bowl the full 4 overs. Below 4 overs, the bonus does not apply. Part-time bowlers with 1-2 overs get the dot-ball bonus only.

Is the captain multiplier the same on every platform?

Yes — 2× for captain, 1.5× for vice-captain across Dream11, My11Circle, MPL, Vision11, and the rest. There is no platform variation.

Does the points table change every IPL season?

Points table has been stable since 2020 with one tweak (the impact-player substitution rule). The thresholds above are valid for IPL 2026.
